For a long time I was planning to paint watercolors on Ingres paper (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingres_paper). I had the sheets laying around for more than one year, I had the wood panels to fix the thin paper on them for more than 8 months – but I did need the time of my holidays to get started finally. A few days ago I prepared the wood panels and yesterday I could finally paint my 1st watercolor on this beautiful paper. The paper has to be mounted on the wood panel with wallpaper adhesive. I am still experimenting with the consistence of the glue. The problem is that the paper has to be completely mounted on the panel during painting and drying and then has to be removed from it without destroying the paper. The painting process on this paper is wonderful – the brushes dance over the surface like butter. Here are my first results with short timelapse videos of the painting process.
Ich habe schon geplant,Aquarelle auf Ingres Papier zu malen. Die Blätter hatte ich schon über ein Jahr bei mir rumliegen und die Sperrholzplatten zum Aufziehen des Papiers hatte ich mir auch schon vor 8 Monaten besorgt. Aber es brauchte die Zeit meines Urlaubs, um endlich loszulegen. Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich die Holzplatten vorbereitet und gestern konnte ich endlich zum ersten Mal auf diesem wunderbaren Papier malen. Während meines Studiums in den 80er Jahren haben wir viel auf Ingres Papier gearbeitet, allerdings hauptsächlich zum Zeichnen, ohne das Papier aufzuziehen. Zum Aquarellieren muss das Papier mit Tapetenkleister aufgezogen werden, um ein Wellen zu vermeiden. Ich experimentiere noch mit der richtigen Konsistenz des Kleisters. Die Schwierigkeit besteht darin, dass das Papier nach dem Malen und Trocknen wieder von der Platte abgezogen werden muss, ohne es dabei zu zerreissen. Das Malen darauf ist wunderbar – die Pinsel gleiten über die Oberfläche wie “gebuttert”. Hier sind meine ersten beiden Resultate, jeweils mit einem kleinen Zeitraffer Video vom Mal-Prozess.
