Schloss Borbeck, Essen (Steps)

From time to time I try to paint a local motif from my hometown Essen and I was thinking about painting the Schloss Borbeck, a little castle that is not far away from my apartment. It is popular spot in our town with a beautiful park in the back and one of the favorite places to get married. I tried to paint it from my memory to make it more challenging and to avoid to get lost in details. And comparing my watercolor with photos of the spot I find that my visual memory works pretty good – I wish it would work the same way with names and numbers! LOL! I added a few step-by-step pictures from my painting process.

Von Zeit zu Zeit picke ich mir ja immer mal wieder ein Motiv aus meiner Heimatstadt Essen heraus, und das Schloss Borbeck, dass nicht weit von meiner Wohnung entfernt ist, hatte ich zum Malen schon länger im Sinn. Es ist ein ziemlich beliebter Ort in unserer Stadt mit einem sehr schönen Park auf der Rückseite – und einer der beliebtesten Plätze der Stadt zum Heiraten. Um es mir nicht zu einfach zu machen, habe ich versucht, es aus dem Kopf zu malen –  auch, um mich nicht in unwesentlichen Details zu verlieren. Und wenn ich das Aquarell im Nachhinein mit Fotos vergleiche, finde ich, dass mein visuelles Gedächtnis ganz gut funktioniert. Ich wünschte, mit Namen und Zahlen würde es genauso gut funktionieren. Ich habe ein paar Schritt-für-Schritt Fotos von meinem Mal-Prozess beigefügt.
