Refreshment / Falling Waters II – #worldwatercolormonth

Not a finished watercolor today, because it was just too hot to proceed. At least I did paint something that promised some (mental) refreshment and may be if it would not have been for my video project I might have been able to finish it. But the hot weather and the film-lights together were just too much and so I had to stop painting when it seemed to  be more sweat than water.  So here is how far I got today until I had to break. I hope I feel to come back to it tomorrow in the morning after my nightshift, because it should not be too much more to paint.

I wanted a second waterfall painting for my video, based on the first one, but brought to a larger (full sheet) format and a few changes in the layout. I decided to paint this new version on the handmade paper by Lorenzo Santoni and it was a good choice. The paper seems to be perfect for this kind of scene. The surface and structure of the paper are wonderful for this kind of landscape painting and the different shades of blue come out really beautiful here. I should be really motivated to finish it tomorrow – only if I am too tired I won´t .

      1. I had / have the same problem, Maureen. Sometimes it works, sometimes I fail and the watercolor becomes some hybrid between the craving for freedom and expression and the educated wish for accuracy. The most important part, I think, is to be kind to ourselfs. 🙂

  1. I know the feeling. We had some scorchers here in Washington DC. Oddly, though, this week has turned very mild — wonderful grey days with rain and temperatures like September in the mornings. It’ll get hot again, but I am enjoying this reprieve while I can! Love your waterfall — it’s just what one needs on a hot day!

    1. Usually I feel comfy with high temperatures… when I relax in the pool with a Pina Colada in my hand. LOL! 🙂 Painting feels less comfy now… but I´d like to get the video finished. It was about 107,6 F in my ´studio´ this afternoon – 95 F would still be okay but anything higher is making me lazy. 🙂

      1. It is! Today it was 100,4°F outside and 113°F inside. I had to turn off my computer when it started to squeak! LOL! 🙂 Tomorrow is expected to be even a little bit hotter… but maybe a short break for the weekend.

      2. I prefer temperatures a little bit lower for painting watercolors. 77° F would be my ideal painting temperature (if not for any activity). I still paint when it is hot like that but it is much more strenuous. Beside that there is no difference. And: There are no weird questions, Aletha! LOL 🙂
