  1. Your colors work so well together, Carsten, and the evoke just the right mood for your subject. I’m playing around with watercolors a bit right now, and most of my washes just end up looking muddy and awful. I so admire your talent. Seeing your paintings always inspires me. Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful watercolors.

      1. Right now I’m working with basic primaries — mostly ultramarine, alizarin crimson, and cadmium yellow medium. I also have burnt sienna. I’m trying to mix everything else from there. I have one painting I started recently, and my first wash just looks awful. I can’t seem to quite get it right when I try to use more than one color for an initial wash. I tried using more pigment — and I just ended up with more mud. I’m not sure if I’ll try finishing the scene just for practice or if I should toss it out and start over. Either way, I’ll post the results when it’s finished.
