Sometimes it takes a whole day or even days to finish a large scale watercolor. I love to paint big formats because it has something physical – almost like sports. But since I mainly paint through my nightshift it is much more handy to paint these tiny watercolors. Here I can paint loose without messing up the whole office and the result is so effortless to achieve – in most cases it just needs a few brushstrokes to develop a landscape. Wonderful! I am glad that I ordered more handmade paper from Italy to continue this series of small landscapes beside my work. I still have some full sheet watercolors in progress but painting these tiny ones is satisfaction guranteed! 🙂 Happy weekend – a extra long weekend here in Germany. (Pentecost)
Beautiful paintings, as usual!

It seems like the small format can bring a great deal of freedom. I love the new motifs. The third one seems especially new and different.

Thanks so much, Aletha! Yes, it gives freedom and special structure of the handmade paper makes it easier to let go. It is hard to control and so I gave up trying to have control. 🙂

I am very partial to the first one, though all of these are beautiful ❤️ there is something special happening when you are working in a small format, a fresh look for certain.

Thanks so much, Margaret! 🙂 Yes, this small format is special… as the handmade paper makes it extra special. You have to let go and give up control.

So great, and very partial to the second one. A road that disappears into light always draws me in. Question, you mention often the “night shift”. Can I ask what you mean?

Thanks so much, North Liza Lane. 🙂 I work in the office at night ( a crisis hotlline), but I always have my painting stuff with me to stay awake at night. This way I have a lot of time to practice.

Admirable job! Interesting how that worked out for your painting as well, and, that you decided to do so! – Thank you for answering my question.
