Intuitive brushstrokes

A watercolor from Tuesday afternoon. It started abstract but during the first wash it became clear that it developes into a semi-abstract landscape. I wish I would have left the right side of the painting more open – but that is the beauty and the problem with the intuitive painting process: you never know where it is going to. But it was pure fun to paint. The paper I used is Hahnemühle Anniversary, that is similiar to Hahnemühle Cornwall (if not the same). It is a heavy grain fin/cold pressed  paper (450 gsm /  210lbs) that is suitable for all kind of painting techniques and invites to experiment. You can create very smooth color surfaces as on a hot pressed paper but also achieve structures with a dry brush. Below are some pictures from my painting process.

Ein Aquarell von Dienstag Nachmittag. Es begann abstrakt, aber schon beim ersten Farbauftrag kristallisierte sich heraus, dass es sich in eine halb-abstrakte Landschaft entwickeln würde. Ich wünschte, ich hätte die rechte Seite etwas offener gelassen, aber das ist sowohl das Schöne wie auch das Problem mit einem intuitiven Mal-Prozess: man weiß nie, wo die Reise hingeht. Aber es hat sehr viel Spaß gemacht, es zu malen. Das Papier, das ich benutzt habe, ist Hahnemühle Anniversary, das ähnlich (wenn nicht sogar gleich) wie Hahnemühle Cornwall ist. Es ist ein mattes, recht schweres ( 450 gsm /  210lbs ) Papier mit einer relativ glatten und doch strukturierten Oberfläche, das für alle möglichen Mal-Techniken geeignet scheint und zum Experimentieren einlädt. Man kann darauf sehr weiche Farboberflächen und Lasuren malen, aber auch schöne Strukturen, zum Beispiel mit einem trockenen Pinsel, erreichen. Unten findet Ihr einige Bilder von meinem Mal-Prozess.
