Lack of daylight

After a beautiful relaxed weekend I am now back to office. Wintertime is revealing a negative aspect about my nightshift-work: an extrem lack of daylight. It is dark outside when I leave for work, it is still dark when I come home and when I wake up in the afternoon it is almost getting dark. Maybe I am going to change my daily schedule in winter… trying to stay up for some hours after work and sleep later. Since the change from summer- to winter-time I feel more tired every week and I guess it has to do with this lack of daylight. I hope I can find a way to solve this “problem”.  I did not paint anything this weekend but I still have these two sketches left from last week.

  1. That second sketch is so beautiful and expresses the season well.
Feeling tired and down when sunshine is limited is very common among many of us. You are not alone. Maybe you could give yourself a walk outside in the morning before going to sleep?
Also, do you work at night under full spectrum lights? This will help. I have found that incandescent ones really are the best.

  2. It’s been a long time since I worked night shifts – I did it for a number of jobs and, while I liked living in what felt like an opposite direction to most, I recall vividly the lack of daylight hours and found it a real struggle. Hope you find a way through it Carsten!

    1. Thanks so much, John. The benefits from the nightshift work are a greater value: more free time, less stress, more money, more time for painting. If I would work in this office at daytimes (like I did the years before) I would probably not get much more daylight anyway. It is easier during spring, summer and autumn but I will make it through the winter, too. Painting helps a lot. 🙂
