Back to the pages of my sketchbook. Without planning it it became a series of autumn- trees / light-color studies and I decided to keep that going for a while. The handmade paper and the small size inspires to reduce the amount of brushstrokes and to create an atmosphere almost effortless. I wish I could transport that feel to my larger watercolors but this will require a lot more practice. For now am happy with the results in a small size and for the first time since I started to paint watercolors I really enjoy to flip through the (already painted) pages of my sketchbook and think “Well done, Carsten – you are on a good way.” 🙂 Of course not everything is perfect in my little watercolor sketches but it feels good to see something succeeding from time to time. The above picture is my personal favorite in this series so far. I like the mixture of soft melting colors and the dry brush strokes giving depth and contrast.
Did I already tell you that I love these little handmade sketchbooks from Lorenzo Santoni? Well, I guess I did! 🙂 LOL!

🙂 LOL!

Ah but I might have a hard time deciding for I like the spruce forest equally well. It is wonderful the dry brush effects playing with the soft wet in wet.
So glad you are in a good place.

Thanks so much, Debi! I am so happy about it, too. Unfortunately I am not able yet to reproduce the “mastery” of it at any time… it is so much depending on being in the right mood and not being disatracted by other things and thoughts. I am still so much a beginner and so far away from mastery – but it is so much fun to learn a little bit with every new painting. 🙂

I like your favourite, and the softer ones as well! The second is really striking! So good to find a product, in this case paper, that you are happy with!

Such beautiful creations as usual. I hope one day I can paint as well as you do… but don’t think I’ll live that long! LoL!

Thanks so much, Gwendolyn! You are too kind. 🙂 I am sure you can paint as well… To be honest: I think everybody could. I think it is just a matter of motivation to paint every day.

I know that feeling – 24 hours are a short day… but I made painting a daily ritual like eating or sleeping. 🙂
