Lately I feel a bit tired at night and too lazy to start a large painting in the nightshift. I am so happy about this small handmade watercolor book and feel that this is the perfect way of painting these days. Here are my two latest entries from the book from last night. I am not trying something new here, just trying to reduce details to find more freedom in my brushwork. I paint these with a huge flat brush and one of my medium Chinese brushes.
In letzter Zeit fühle ich mich nachts etwas müde und zu faul, um ein größeres Aquarell zu beginnen. Umso mehr freue ich mich über das kleine handgemachte Aquarellbuch und finde, dass es für solche Nächte die perfekte Art zu malen ist. Hier sind meine beiden letzten Einträge aus der letzten Nacht. Ich versuche hier nichts Neues, es ist die Suche nach Reduktion um mehr Freiheit in der Pinselarbeit selbst zu finden. Ich male diese mit einem großen Flachpinsel und einem mittleren Chinesischen Pinsel.

I like the second one. It would be interesting to see a video of you doing one of these little studies-how you decide to place the brush and the sequence of strokes.

I am going to make a few videos this fall. Some people asked for it already … and now you do, Holly… so I finally have to start video-making. 🙂

Go for it! Check out Gurney Journey. He does a lot with video. Anica Art has also done short clips which are very good.

Thanks so much, Holly. I love James Gurney´s work since I noticed that he was the man some great animation background paintings… and this is about 30 years ago. 🙂 His blog is always an inspiring source… although I have not been there for a while. Thanks for the reminder. There is probably a lot of new stuff waiting for me… 🙂
Video filming and editing was a huge part of my job as a freelancer for years, but nowadays I don´t feel for spending too much time in front of my computer. But I am going to produce some video this fall / winter.
