Plein-Air industry remains

A few days ago I decided to go back to Duisburg to paint the industry remains there. I could not finish the painting completely on location and put it away for while. I was not even sure if Iike my watercolor but yesterday I decided to have a look at it again and add some finishing touches. I did not care too much for authentic details. It is a good practice to reduce the complexe structures to some bold shapes first and try to avoid to much brush fiddling. I am okay with my result now but I will surely go back to the place to get more practice.

Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich mich spontan entschieden nach Duisburg zu fahren, um mich noch einmal malerisch mit den alten Industrieanlagen im Landschaftspark Nord zu beschäftigen. Ich konnte mein Aquarell vor Ort leider nicht ganz fertigstellen und habe es erst einmal beiseite gelegt. Ich war mir auch erst nicht so sicher ob ich meine Pinselei mag, aber gestern habe ich sie noch einmal hervorgeholt, um sie fertig zu stellen. Ich habe mich nicht so sehr um authentische Details gekümmert. Es ist eine gute Übung, die komplexe Struktur erst mal auf einige grobe Formen zu reduzieren und zu viel “Pinselgewedel” zu vermeiden. Jetzt bin ich meinem Resultat doch ganz zufrieden, aber ich werde sicherlich noch einmal dort hin fahren, um die Übungen zu vertiefen.
