Vertical format

For some reason I prefer painting in horizontal format. I don´t know why but I always feel a little bit uncomfortable with the vertical format although I am impressed by this format from other artists. From time to time I try to paint a watercolor in vertical format to get more practice with it but it is not as much fun for me. I did try it again last night with this one, but again it became a little bit crampy and less loose than my other paintings. I am not sure if should force myself to paint vertical formats or just accept that I seem to be limited to horizontal formats.

Aus einem mir unbekannten Grund ziehe ich das Malen im Querformat vor. Ich weiß nicht, warum ich mich immer ein wenig unwohl fühle, wenn ich ein Hochformat versuche, denn ich mag dieses Format wirklich, wenn andere Künstler es nutzen. Von Zeit versuche ich im Hochformat zu malen, um darin mehr Übung zu bekommen, aber es macht mir einfach nicht so viel Freude. Letzte Nacht habe ich es wieder einmal versucht, aber wieder fand ich es etwas verkrampft und weniger locker als meine anderen Aquarelle. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob ich mich mehr zum Malen im Hochformat zwingen oder einfach akzeptieren sollte, dass ich aufs Querformat limitiert bin.

  4. I think it’s really beautiful! I would follow that creek still little further. I think that would give the picture a little more depth… Just my humble opinion.

  5. The painting works very well just the way you did it. I think one chooses format to emphasize whatever it is which draws you to the subject. Sometimes you will want and need to use a vertical composition and sometimes a horizontal. I saw one on my walk this morning which needed a square to really say what i wanted it to.
    Keep painting and sharing your work. It is lovely and a lovely thing you do for us.
