This is one of my favorite motives and the one, that made me start painting watercolors, beside the strong impression, that American abandoned houses left on me. This old Victorian mansion built on wooden pillars, originally constructed at the beach and now conquered and surrounded by the sea appears in my dreams from time to time since I was a kid. And it appeared in one of my first watercolors when I started to paint in autumn 2014. Because this building appears in my mind again and again I decided that it was about time to paint it again: If you follow me for a while you will probably see this motive from time to time. When I painted this one yesterday and then compared it with my first approach I had the feeling that I made some progress since I started with watercolors. This one was painted in about 30 minutes just from memory without any pre-pencil-sketching and has much more expression than the first one, which took me several hours and looked a little bit dull. A good feeling! The other sketch below was just a little warm-up.

Das hier ist eines meiner Lieblingsmotive und dasjenige, das mich dazu brachte, mit dem Aquarellmalen anzufangen – neben dem starken Eindruck, den verlassene amerikanische Häuser bei mir hinterlassen haben. Dieses alte viktorianische Gebäude, ursprünglich an einem Strand auf Holzpfählen errichtet und jetzt von der See erobert und umspült, taucht von Zeit zu Zeit in meinen Träumen auf seit ich ein Kind war. Und es war das Motiv eines meiner ersten Aquarelle im Herbst 2014. Weil dieses Gebäude immer wieder einmal in meinen Gedanken auftaucht, habe ich beschlossen, dass es Zeit ist, es noch einmal zu malen. Nachdem ich gestern diese Version gemalt hatte und mit meinem ersten Versuch verglichen habe, dachte ich: hey – ich habe seitdem ein paar Fortschritte gemacht. Dieses hier habe ich in etwa 30 Minuten aus dem Kopf und ohne Bleistiftzeichnung gemalt, und es hat viel mehr Ausdruck als die erste Version, die mich mehrere Stunden gekostet hat und etwas ´lahm´ wirkt. Ein gutes Gefühl! Die andere Skizze unten war nur zum Aufwärmen.
