Lazy Sunday

Yesterday i have been invited to a wonderful birthday-party. I met people i have not seen for 30 and more years and it was great to talk with them and enjoy some good memories. It became pretty late – i came home at 5:00 am – because the time was going by so fast. So my Sunday was lazy, i did not sleep too much and i am still tired. It was rainy today, too – so i did spend most of the day with painting in my sketchbook which was pretty relaxing. I did a series of roughs after Andreas and Oswald Achenbach, two German landscape painters from the 19th century, who had a huge influence on German landscape painting. I really admire both´s work, but for my sketches i did not follow their masterpieces too much but just picked out some details of their pictures as inspiration for some loose painting-practices. So i did not try to copy their art but got the initial inspiration from it. I was curious to see what happens.

  1. I love the first painting — the trees — most of all. The colors are exquisite, like light coming through the forest. I enjoy looking at all your paintings, and the “nature” scenes always leave me in awe. They all do, but I love trees, and rocks, and rivers most of all.

  2. You have made so many and they’re all so wonderful. I especially like o95 because of the blue/yellow contrast and moody, luxurious sense of Nature, the water, a moment made endless but they are all beautiful. Sounds like you had a great time and it has spilled over into the pictures.

  3. Hi Carsten, I just discovered your paintings… just amazing and wonderful. And you call them Lockerungsübungen 🙂 If this is only the warm up, then I really would like to see what you do when you are warmed up! 😉 Your style really inspires me. Thank you for sharing!

And perhaps you would like this painter from the 19 th century from Luxembourg: Sosthène Weis
