I have been in an experimental mood during the last days. Because of a change in my working schedule and the weird weather i did feel a little bit limited in my painting-time and could not start painting on a bigger sheet of paper. The sketchbook is my best companion for those days. So the painting during the last two evenings became a meditation with the brush. I wanted to find out, where a spontaneous and intuitive painting method would lead me to – and and i wanted the wet color on my paper to be my only guide, without following a reference or a strict idea of the motive. This way did feel pretty good and was really liberating. I got the feeling that these experiments are important for my progress. Some might look a little bit wild – but it probably has to be that way, if you let yourself go and be just led by the color running down the paper, that is meeting with other wet colors and – like magic – creates new color tones and structures. .

All watercolor sketches were painted in 3 steps of pretty wet washes, each painted without a break. The motives developed during the first wash – i just had a rough idea about what it might be when i started the painting. The single objects and the ´composition´came just from painting the first strokes without being guided by a reference. In the first step i tried to establish a color-composition that was more important to me than the motive. Every color that was painted on one spot of the paper should appear and be mirrored on another place, too. I have the feeling that this makes it a color harmony and gives a composition structure to the painting. I did not try this way of painting before – not in this consequence – but it makes painting more spiritual. I am really happy with these experiments and i guess i will follow this way for a while.
