Eine weitere Pinselübung von gestern Abend. Ich versuche zunehmend auf die Vorzeichnung mit Bleistift zu verzichten, um mich nicht zu sehr an den vorgegebenen Linien entlang zu pinseln, sondern das Motiv ´malerischer` zu erfassen. Für mich selbst sind diese Übungen sehr spannend und eine gute Schulung für konzentriertes Malen.

  4. I love this! which colors did you use to make the shadows and especially your purple/violet? I translated what you wrote and you did this without drawing it out with pencil but used your brush to stroke in your drawing? I think that is what the google translate said. If so, very impressive…..also was it better or how different was the exercise? Sorry for all the questions, I am a very curious person and since I am really into learning watercolors, I can’t help but ask. 🙂 Oh, I also love your trees being simplistic, gives it an “arty feeling”.

    1. Thank you so much, Margaret! You don´t have to say Sorry for asking a few questions. I try to paint without a primary pencil sketch for a few days now. Because of my drawing background i tend to put too much drawing in my watercolors, too. I think trying to get the motive without the sketch helps me on the way to a more loose interpretation. I think good watercolors should always look ´effortless´. So i try to get the shapes of the motive with some loose brushstrokes and then add some details. It helps me to concentrate on the painting. If i am able to i will try to do my paintings without some pencil works from now on – because the painting experience feels much better for me. There might be motives i am not able to get without pencil sketches because they are too complex – but then i have to break them down to some simplistic forms, too.
      I did use some `Blue Purple´mixed with a little bit of `Burned Sienna´for this little exercise.

      1. Interesting…..of course that makes sense, less pencil work makes looser paintings. I am always so much in a hurry to pencil in my sketches because I want to paint right….now! Especially in plein air. The tighter I want to be, I’ll be very precise in my drawing it out first. I’ll keep an eye open to see if I can see the difference. Truthfully your paintings look so free and loose and expressive already to me, so you are wanting even more expression, bravo. I’ll let you know what I see in your different approach…it helps to have extra eyes. 🙂
